Basketball team logos

Hey there! I've noticed you're a frequent editor, and you've uploaded the SVG file for the Westchester Knicks. My question would be: how do I create an SVG file logo for some other basketball teams (Grises de Humacao, Osos de Manati, Atleticos de San German, Kaohsiung Steelers), because the png and jpg logo files keep getting deleted (as they should, copyright and what not) but the wikipedia article of the teams look empty without the logos. Any suggestions? Cheers! MrSplashman77 (talk) 21:53, 13 February 2023 (UTC)

@MrSplashman77: WP:IUP#FORMAT specifies that logos should be in either SVG or PNG (if SVG is not available) formats. If they are getting deleted then you are probably using the wrong rationale (I use Template:Non-free use rationale logo) and/or license (I use Template:Non-free logo). I do not create SVG logos, because I usually find them on team/league websites or media guides and resize or extract them (if it is from a PDF file) so I cannot really help you with that. – sbaio 14:31, 14 February 2023 (UTC)
I see, apologies then. Feel free to delete this conversation, and have a nice day! MrSplashman77 (talk) 16:41, 14 February 2023 (UTC)

NHL year templates

Am I not supposed to use those? I'm lazy and would much rather just put that in the text than look for and use the proper dash, it's much more convenient, but it would be good to know what's proper. dannymusiceditor oops 07:03, 26 February 2023 (UTC)

@DannyMusicEditor: I assume that Template:NHL Year was meant to be use in career statistics tables, lists and infoboxes (looking at the NBA practice). I guess this question should be better asked at WT:NHL where older editors might give the answer. – sbaio 07:12, 26 February 2023 (UTC)

Although he appears to have filed it himself out of some persecution narrative, just wanted to say I greatly appreciate you doing the work to clearly demonstrate how disruptive he's been, and hopefully reverse the tide of what seem to be infrequent contributors to WP:IH sailing in to support his actions in the RfC. Hi, I wanted to just give a heads up that the primary logo on the Arizona Coyotes page is a bit outdated. When the kachina was brought back in 2021, it had some graphical errors on it, such as missing outlines and miscolored stripes. These were fixed before the 2022 season, when it was officially made their primary logo. The current logo on the page is the old version. It says you added the logo there and I don't know how to properly upload copyrighted images to Wikipedia myself. It's no problem at all but just something I thought I would bring up.

StudiedPort5

P.S. This is the first time I am using the talk feature on Wikipedia, so apologies if I am late to replying. StudiedPort5 (talk) 21:13, 23 May 2023 (UTC)

@StudiedPort5: The logo at Arizona Coyotes is the same logo as in Coyotes official website. So I am not sure what you mean with different. – sbaio 18:37, 24 May 2023 (UTC)
I see that the website still uses the 2021 version. The logo on the website and the one they wear on their uniforms is different. (Missing outlines, one of the stripes on the arms is a different color.) I tried linking an article that shows the difference between them, but I don’t know how to send images through here (you can probably find one online). I suppose if the website uses the old logo it can still be used on the page. StudiedPort5 (talk) 19:08, 24 May 2023 (UTC)

I was finally able to get through to Gymrat16 and help the user understand what he was doing incorrectly. He seems to have taken the criticism to heart as his edits are sourced, are closer to MOS, and generally omit trivial information. Yes - they were using multiple IPs in the past that were blocked, but he is at least communicating now and hopefully learned from the multiple blocks and warnings. His edits are vastly improved, but probably could use some direction and feedback from other editors. I'd be inclined to continue reverting their edits had he not have replied back and listened to my warnings. I also do not think this is Moka. I could be wrong, but their editing style and willingness to communicate and leave edit summaries makes me feel they are different people. thanks, --  StarScream1007  ►Talk  12:42, 28 June 2023 (UTC)

It does not matter whether he is Moka Mo or not. The editor used multiple IPs to evade his block. In addition, while edits have improved, but there is a lot of cleanup need to be done after this editor's additions. And I am certainly not going to do that. – sbaio 12:50, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
True. I can only hope at this point the user has turned over a new leaf, and is willing to take feedback from other users. I'd certainly petition for a block in most cases, but the editor is making a good faith attempt to make constructive edits that align with our policies. As for the cleanup, please leave Gymrat constructive criticism – they are listening. Us going reverting his edits is just going to turn into an infinite cat and mouse game. --  StarScream1007  ►Talk  13:08, 28 June 2023 (UTC)

NBA "Icon" logos

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

Regardless of the Pelicans logo thing, we should start a discussion regarding how selective you guys are with the team logos. Officially, Icon logos have predominantly became a stable of most NBA teams with an exception of Celtics, Hornets, Knicks, etc. Teams like the Nuggets, Cavs and Rockets have Icon logos while others have Global, so why is that? These decisions are 5 years outdated and it’s pretty clear that the Icon logos should be the representative logos here on Wikipedia, based on if the current team and NBA sites both use them. GalaxyFighter55 (talk) 07:53, 4 July 2023 (UTC)

Also, I know you reverted the Pelicans logo because of my previous explanation but the team website and NBA profile have predominately showcased the partial Pelican logo for the past 2-3 years, I’m pretty sure that should be the logo used.--GalaxyFighter55 (talk) 07:58, 4 July 2023 (UTC)
@GalaxyFighter55: You ought to start a discussion at WT:NBA and not here. – sbaio 13:53, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
@Sbaio: Didn't mean to turn your page into a discussion form, sorry about that. But you do agree with me that this put into context above doesn't really make much sense anymore, right? Ok I was trying to be respectful, but now I have to ask: what is the deal? You label every edit I do on sports pages as “disruptive” and that I’m a “disruptive editor” when I’m just attempting to keep things as encyclopedic/accurate as possible. I do not have ill intentions. Another user renamed the Philly metro page as “Delaware Valley” which is the more common name. I live here. If you’re going to revert edits and we discuss you shouldn’t assume the intentions of my edits… Banan14kab (talk) 13:44, 16 September 2023 (UTC)

I'm not sure what you mean by 'too much'. The information in Category:National Hockey League team seasons is spread out across dozens of pages and does not include all the relevant data, particularly as some of the teams did not participate in the NHL. As per the discussion on Talk:Stanley Cup playoffs there were issues with the previous table that I am trying to address. Could you be more specific on the problem with including the table. PensRule11385 (talk) 19:18, 5 October 2023 (UTC)

Nothing from Talk:Stanley Cup playoffs#NHL playoff results tables was addressed. You basically put everything in the same table. And I also see that you were the creator of previous tables back in 2018 so I would assumed that you would WP:GETOVERIT since then. – sbaio 03:16, 6 October 2023 (UTC)
The last edit to remove the table, Stanley Cup playoffs: Revision history; 11:28, 9 October 2019‎, expressed an openness for a better (fixed) table in the future. As far as I could tell from the comments, other than the color issue, there was no consensus as to the need or utility of the table. Some were fine with the ides, others didn't see the point. While its taken me a while to figure out how to go about it, I thought I would try again to see if I could address some of the concerns that were brought up; I believe I corrected much of the WP:COLOR problems, I made the table more compact and had it set as an easily-navigable timeline, and I removed the redundant prose. It also mimics tables found on other pages, which seem to be acceptable. This has less to so with WP:GETOVERIT than it does trying to do a better job than my ham-fisted attempt 5 years ago. PensRule11385 (talk) 11:43, 6 October 2023 (UTC)
You ought to read that discussion again. The majority of editors were against it. In addition, WP:OTHERSTUFF is not a justification for such table. You should better raise this question at WT:NHL and see what other editors think. – sbaio 06:53, 7 October 2023 (UTC)

Cale Makar

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

Hi there, Please accept my apology for the possible typos I failed to spot. I am doing this on my phone. I also apologize if I come across as disruptive. I am not trying to be disruptive of any sorts on this platform. I am wanting to help keep things up to date on this platform and make sure pages do not have anything false. That being said, I am curious to know why Cale Makar is not considered an alternate captain on Colorado. Yes, I am aware that teams have to pick players to get a letter on their jerseys when a one of the captains gets hurt. That being said, Makar was the go guy initially in the 2021-22 for that, and I believe wearing the A on his jersey for the entirety of the 2022-23 season, and the fact the most likely will wear it all of 2023-24 season again due to the strong likely hood that Landeskog will be missing the entire of this coming season qualifies him as an alternate captain. I believe this as a current matter; being that the said injured player’s injury is long term. Even if Landeskog comes back, and that means Makar losing his A full time, he still would likely be considered an alternate captain. I remember Chris Tanev of flames being listed as an alternate captain to START the 2021-22 campaign, but he did not wear an A on his sweater until Monahan was injured and out for the year. Tylerboyd17 (talk) 07:16, 8 October 2023 (UTC)

@Tylerboyd17: First of all, nobody said that your edits are disruptive. Secondly, the Avalanche must officially announce Makar as alternate captain, which they did not do. Same goes for Rasmus Andersson of the Flames. – sbaio 12:56, 8 October 2023 (UTC)
The flames did officially announce Andersson as an alternate recently. I am fairly certain the Aves officially named him an alternate at the start of 2021-22. He just didn't wear in until someone got hurt. Tanev didn't wear the A until Monaghan's injury. Though he considered an alternate on this platform. Tylerboyd17 (talk) 20:57, 8 October 2023 (UTC)
The Aves had 4 alternates last season.
https://thehockeywriters.com/avalanche-captain-options-with-landeskog-sidelined/. Tylerboyd17 (talk) 21:04, 8 October 2023 (UTC)
Like no offence, but I noticed you edited other articles that I had updated like Rasmus Andersson and Cole Caufield, and ask for a source. Only for someone to put back what I had placed in the first place. Tylerboyd17 (talk) 01:23, 9 October 2023 (UTC)
@Tylerboyd17: The flames did officially announce Andersson as an alternate recently. – that did not appear in any news feed for me probably due to geoblocking for editors from Europe (like me) and I am not always able to use VPN.
I am fairly certain the Aves officially named him an alternate at the start of 2021-22. He just didn't wear in until someone got hurt. Tanev didn't wear the A until Monaghan's injury. Though he considered an alternate on this platform. – the Avalanche did not officially announce Makar as alternate captain. I looked through every possible NHL source and nothing about that is there. This article from April 18, 2022 quite clearly says that For a good portion of the season, Makar has been appointed alternate captain and donned an 'A' on his jersey at times when Colorado has faced absences among its leadership group in captain Gabriel Landeskog and alternates Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen.. In addition, this article from October 2022 also says that ...where the Avalanche leadership group consisting of captain Gabriel Landeskog and alternate captains Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen thanked... Therefore, just by looking at these two official sources from the team it is evident that Makar is an injury replacement so he is not an official alternate captain and that is why he is not listed as such in here.
The Hockey Writers website is known for unreliable reporting regarding certain facts so that is not a good example.
I already explained Andersson's situation, and I also cited sources, which you did not think of doing. Now regarding Caufield you need to include a source at least in the edit summary so that other editors would understand your reason. In fact, you must use an edit summary per Wikipedia's guidelines, because other editors are not supposed to look through what you are doing without explanation.
You should also read WP:HOTHEAD, because some of your newest edit summaries are showing signs of attitude issues. I am sure your edits are well-intended, but there are certain guidelines and policies that must be followed. – sbaio 12:54, 9 October 2023 (UTC)
Alright, I see how it is. I apologize for any inconvenience. Though I think Caufield’s edit was already established in the article even before I edited. Tylerboyd17 (talk) 18:58, 9 October 2023 (UTC)

In the article Vancouver Canucks you undid my speeling correction. Näslund is Swedish and his name has been – throughout his whole life, I guess – Näslund. Like with several other people called Näslund, by the way. Thus I wonder why on Earth you reverted my correction. Fomalhaut76 (talk) 16:15, 3 November 2023 (UTC)

@Fomalhaut76: WP:NCIH (which I indicated in my edit summary) quite clearly says that All North American hockey pages should have names without diacritics, except where their use is likewise customary (specifically, in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and the Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey).sbaio 11:34, 4 November 2023 (UTC)

I understand that you had issues with me changing the hockey references, but if you explained on my talk page that it was the home then road, that would help me in understanding since most of the other hockey references have the road then home format. This is the case in the New York Rangers page. Digitslain12 (talk) 14:54, 8 November 2023 (UTC)

@Digitslain12: ...since most of the other hockey references have the road then home format. – absolutely not. They have that format, because you force that format (other editors also do not care about the correct game recap titles so they just copy it). The NHL does not care since this season (due to NHL updating their website), which team is playing in home, and they name their game recaps alphabetically. Examples of November 4 games (what page title says at the top of a browser):
You should clearly see from these examples what I wrote about the format earlier. The correct format is "Team A - Team B - Month x, 2023" (months are abbreviated so "Oct" is October, "Nov" – November, "Dec" – December, etc). – sbaio 15:47, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
Ok thank you. I apologize for doing that. I'll fix it next time. Digitslain12 (talk) 15:52, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
Hi, sorry for not fixing it, it's just as you said the formatting that I put in has previously been there. For some pages like the Coyotes and Blues, I did fix it to be accurate but on the Kings and Pens pages, they still have the old style since everyone just let it be. Hi @Sbaio: I personally believe that it was a mistake to revert my edits regarding Bratt’s nickname because the source, and independent media like NHL Network, have mentioned its increase in usage after his standout performance for the Devils last season. I would love to hear your thoughts on the matter so we can come to an agreement on this! Best, Powerplay44 (talk) 22:33, 11 November 2023 (UTC)

@Powerplay44: That is a nickname used by a small group of people. Never have I seen to him referred as JBITBPITNHL in any reliable source (NHL or news media). – sbaio 09:40, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
Got it. I figured that since it was created by a small group of his fans. The only reason I asked was because the source that I cited used it. Thank you. Powerplay44 (talk) 21:37, 12 November 2023 (UTC)

Hello Sbaio,
You made a couple of good edits to Kyviškės Airfield, but one is not fully accurate and I would like to clear things out.

You removed Vilnius portal with a comment "not in Vilnius". But it is, in fact, in Vilnius. Kyviškės is part of Vilnius District Municipality.

Comparison to others
It is in Vilnius, precisely in the same way like Kaunas Airport (located in Karmėlava) is in Kaunas. Or Gothenburg Airport (located in Landvetter) is in Gothenburg. Or Copenhagen Airport (located in Kastrup) is in Copenhagen.

Long story short
Could we add back the portal or is there some other reason for its removal?

Frequently.by.train (talk) 18:09, 13 November 2023 (UTC)

@Frequently.by.train: There is no portal for Vilnius, because Template:Vilnius is a WP:NAVBOX, which is about Vilnius (city) and not district (rajonas). In addition, Vilnius District Municipality (Vilniaus rajono savivaldybė) and Vilnius City Municipality (Vilniaus miesto savivaldybė) are two different things, and Kyviškės is located in Vilnius District Municipality (per VLE source – Kỹviškės, kaimas Vilniaus rajono savivaldybės teritorijoje, Šatrininkų seniūnijoje...) Therefore, I am in fact correct. This source quite clearly says that there was an airplane crash at "Kyviškių aerodromas, Vilniaus r. sav." (Vilnius District Municipality). The example of Kaunas Airport is poor, because it is located in Kaunas District Municipality (Kauno rajono savivaldybė) and not in Kaunas City Municipality (Kauno miesto savivaldybė). I am not familiar with administrative divisions of Sweden and Denmark so I cannot say anything about those. You are also confusing city (miestas), district (rajonas) and county (apskritis) all of which are different administrative divisions of Lithuania. – sbaio 18:42, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
I agree with you reasoning and I understand the difference between city (miestas), district (rajonas) and county (apskritis).
However, area administration is very similar in Sweden and Denmark (I have lived in both) and Gothenburg Airport and Copenhagen Airport have portals for their respective nearby cities. Same goes for pretty much any other airport I know of.
Gothenburg Airport for example is located in completely different municipality called Härryda Municipality. And the airport still has a portal for Gothenburg. It makes sense, I think.
It's not about the technicalities, but the substance. That airport serves Gothenburg – so the portal is there, even though the airport is technically in a neighbouring municipality. Same should apply for Kyviskes airfield, I think. It should be about the essence and not technicalities.
Kyviskes airfield serves Vilnius. It is the main airport for training, events, aerosports, etc.

Frequently.by.train (talk) 18:58, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
Kyviskes airfield serves Vilnius. – that needs to be sourced. In addition, Kyviškės is not in Vilnius City Municipality so there is absolutely no need to include something that is outside city limits. – sbaio 19:01, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi. Can I advise that when you report editors for edit-warring, that you don't use WP:AIV like this? That noticeboard is reserved for immediate action that unambiguously requires an indefinite or otherwise lengthy block or further sanctions against deliberate attempts to make the encyclopedia worse. I have blocked Debbie.440937, but for edit-warring, not vandalism. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 13:48, 14 December 2023 (UTC)

@Ritchie333: Thanks for the advice. Then where should I report such actions by other editors? – sbaio 13:52, 14 December 2023 (UTC)
If the problem is localised to edit-warring across one article, use WP:AN3. If the problem is persistent across multiple articles, use WP:ANI. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 13:53, 14 December 2023 (UTC)
